Atlantic Bay Resort, Key Largo

BeachHunter's Review

I immediately loved the Atlantic Bay Resort when I first drove onto the property. It's on the bay side of Key Largo and is an older Florida style motel that is obviously well cared for. The tropical landscaping, coconut palms and climbing bougainvillea are gorgeous, as is the pool. The resort has a boat ramp and dockage and several thatched shelters near the water. There is no beach really. The water front is limestone rock, but there are cleared "sandy" areas above the rocks and under the palms. A thin finger of land juts into the bay and makes a nice overlook. Below is a slide show of photos I took at the Atlantic Bay Resort:

The resort is within just a few minutes of lots of restaurants and is close to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Atlantic Bay Resort is a popular place for weddings and for fishing getaways. They obviously cater heavily to fishermen and to families with boats. I spent Thursday night at the resort and everything was very quiet until the sports fishing boats returned to the dock, then things got a bit noisier. Friday morning a crew arrived early to set up a wedding tent and invaded my quiet time by the bay. If you are looking for a quiet, private getaway, this probably isn't what you are looking for. If you want a place to stay over on your way further south, or if you are planning an event or just a family fishing or dive trip, the Atlantic Bay Resort is perfect.

My room was clean and comfortable and as I recall, I only paid about $100 for the night.
