Beachhunter; We like to stop in at the St Augustine area on our way to the southern Florida beaches. Our best place near St Augustine is Vilano Beach. It is at the inlet mouth just north of the conjunction of the Tolomato and Mantanzas Rivers, called St Augustine Inlet. You reach this beach by a beautuful little bridge that takes up and over the Tolomato River on the northeast end of St Augustine. Turn right at the stop sign and there is good parking area near restrooms, a cool walk through fountain, and a beach access. This beach has life guards. It has a rock jetty and you can see the St Augustine Lighthouse to the south. There are no highrize condos, just beach houses along the gently sloping, wide beach. The water is crystal clear. The surf is a little rough though.

Hi Dan,
Yes I agree, that is a nice access. We stopped there on the way north to Guana River State Park. There is a great view of the inlet there, and as I recall, there were quite a few cars lined up on the beach. I really like the color of the sand there too. Has a nice orange color in spots. Nice change from the Gulf's white or gray sand. _________________ See you at the beach!

| Been to Vilano but the North End of Anastasia Island Rules. Old Florida as Nature Intended. Great surf, great running beach, great view at the inlet especially at night w/ the fort and Old Town illuminated. |
